Paul Randall – About me

Hi, I’m Paul and I am the cameraman and editor for the Aztec 360 team.
Setting up Aztec Film Productions with Shaun is the best career decision I have ever made. We are a dynamic duo with a passion for making corporate films, TV and anything we can present on the Internet in the film medium. We are always looking for that new challenge whether it be to learn new techniques to put emphasis on our film subject or just looking at new equipment to put polish on the finished result.

My personal favourite part of my working day is when we get a challenge in the specification that we have to solve. Do we do it in the shoot or in post in the edit suite. It’s just great to get our teeth into a new project.

Team Work

Working with Shaun as a presenter and director is great. His many years of experience in the field and his knowledge of the way a film shoot works is always a fantastic source of encouragement for me.

I started my life in media as an amateur photographer at 14 with an old film 35mm camera. Being behind a camera has always been a passion of mine ever since. I studied as a Graphic Designer from the age of 25 at BTec National level and wandered into the natural progression of web design at about 29. But I have always loved the camera and found myself behind one many times shooting product photographs for clients or images for their websites. When we originally set up Aztec 360 I became a professional panoramic photographer shooting mainly 360 Virtual Tours so as a natural progression working with a seasoned Television Presenter our attention turned to making films.

So far we have made well over 150 films which I have shot and edited and it’s still fascinating and there is always more new stuff to leads and ways to improve the product which is our primary focus at all times.

Other interests

Mountain Biking

Mountain biking is something I’ve recently fallen in love with. I only discovered it late in 2013 when my friend Brian invited me to go with him to Sherwood Pines and he dropped me straight in it by taking us on the red section. Not only that but we also went down the rocky bike park section and fortunately I didn’t fall off.

After that I was hooked.

Since then we have been to Cannock Chase in the West Midlands, Llandegla Forest and Coed Y Brenin in North Wales, Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, Dalby Forest and Stainburn in Yorkshire and even Ballyhoura Trail centre in County Cork, Southern Ireland.

I’d love to produce, film and edit a high end Mountain bike film. Not necessarily featuring me but I wouldn’t mind being an Extra in it. Who’s up for it and who will sponsor it? :-).

Juggling

I’m a keen juggler (don’t laugh!) I’ve been involved in running two British Juggling Conventions on very high budgets and I enjoy the social aspect of it. I find that in the juggling scene you get to meet people from all walks of life which gives me a broader perspective in life. It has also helped my hand to eye coordination hugely.

Scuba Diving

As a younger man I spent a lot of my spare time Wreck diving around Cornwall, Devon and the Scilly Isles and my aim this year is to go back to that with my son Ben.

I also enjoy a pint or two of good real ale.
